A 40-year-old man is in custody this morning, after threatening staff and patients at The Countess of Chester Hospital .

Members of the public were advised to steer clear of the hospital after police received a call for 'concern of safety' just before 9am today (Monday April 20).

The man was said to be using threatening language and behaviour to inhabitants of the hospital, and he was arrested shortly afterwards and taken into custody.

Cheshire police had used their official Twitter account to advise the public to steer clear of the hospital while the incident was ongoing, but later tweeted: "The incident at the Countess of Chester has concluded. Please disregard the previous advice about avoiding the area."

A Cheshire police spokesperson said in a statement: "At 8.43am, police received a call of concern for safety at the Countess of Chester Hospital, where a man was using threatening language and behaviour.

"A 40-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has been taken into custody."
