A man was airlifted to hospital after falling from scaffolding on a house in Newton.

At around 7.50am today (Thursday, March 6) a man was rushed to hospital suffering from head injuries after an accident while roofing a house.

The 50-year-old man, thought to work for an Ellesmere Port roofing company, was taken to Aintree University Hospital by air ambulance.

Emergency services were called to the house on Churchward Close, Newton following reports that a man had fallen from scaffolding.

Firefighters assisted paramedics from the North West ambulance service to rescue the man after fears scaffolding would collapse on top of him.

Workers at the scene of the house, where roofing work is currently taking place, confirmed fire engines had attended the property and that they were waiting for news about the injured man.
