A Chester university student has raised hundreds of pounds for a charity which aims to give youngsters with special needs a sporting chance.

Lesley Greenwood from Malpas raised £450 for the Lord's and Lady Taverners after holding a coffee morning at her house last week.

The Lord's and Lady Taverners is the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity and provides support for young people with special needs.

The event, attended by more than 50 people, was supported by members of the charity including Tracey Warrington and Janette Campbell.

MP for Eddisbury, Antoinette Sandbach was also in attendance supporting the event.

Lesley, who is also a member of the charity, said: “It was a really successful event, we raised £450 in one day which I think is great.”

The 52-year-old will also run the London Marathon for the Lord's and Lady Taverners on April 23 next year.

She said: “I go for a run every day, I’m passionate about sport and getting people active.

“It’s a great charity which gives underprivileged children a sporting chance.”

Lesley, who is currently studying a masters in obesity and weight management at the University of Chester, said it is important we all look after our health.

“I graduated with a psychology degree a while ago and I wrote a dissertation discussing the relationship between stress and obesity,” she added. “I always said I would go back to do a masters.

“Around 95 per cent of people actually eat for other reasons and not because they’re hungry.

“If we’re all going to live until our 90s, we should make sure we are fit and healthy. We all have to look after our own health.”

After finishing her masters, Lesley said she hopes to open her own practice in Chester for people who struggle with their weight.
