Motorists travelling eastbound on the M56 faced delays following a multi-vehicle collision between junctions 12 and 11 this morning (February 3).

One lane was blocked following the incident, which is thought to involve up to six vehicles, but reopened at around 10am.

A spokesman for Cheshire Constabulary said: "A multi-vehicle collision on the M56 eastbound near junction 12, Runcorn, was reported at approximately 9am.

"There are not believed to be any injuries and the incident is being managed by Highways agency."

Further disruption was caused by a broken-down lorry on the exit slip road at junction 12, which closed one lane.
