Commuters heading home for the weekend have hit heavy traffic on the M56, but disruption is now easing.
Eastbound tailbacks stretching between junction 12 at Runcorn and junction 15 had built up on Friday (January 8).
Vehicles are moving freely westbound and so far no incidents have been reported on the motorway.
Congestion is also affecting motorists at the junction between the A55 and A51.
Three people have been injured in an accident in Marston-cum-Lache.
