There is more misery for motorists using the M56 near Chester as an overturned caravan brought chaos to this notorious stretch of motorway this afternoon (Saturday, August 15).

One lane of the motorway is closed and there is queueing traffic in both directions due to the overturned caravan on the M56 between J12 A557 (Runcorn) and J14 A5117 (Hapsford).

Lane three (of three) is closed on both sides of the carriageway which is also affecting traffic heading for Ellesmere Port.

The motorway incident is again having a knock-on effect for surrounding rounds with large queues of traffic building up towards Helsby.

North West Motorway Police have confirmed only minor injuries were suffered by the occupants of the vehicle towing the overturned caravan.

This incident comes just a few days after a major incident was declared on the same stretch of the M56 following a tanker fire which disrupted transport systems for hours on Monday.
