Traffic is now easing on the M53 southbound on the approach to Ellesmere Port this morning (Tuesday, February 9).

This followed an earlier accident between J7 B5132 (Overpool) and J8 A5032 / B5463 (Ellesmere Port Docks) which happened about 7.40am.

It caused congestion on M53 back to J4 A5137 / B5137 / B5151 (Bebington), affecting traffic heading towards the M56.

BBC Travel described the incident as severe at its height.

Chronicle reporter Frances Barrett, who was stuck in the snarl-up, has now arrived safely in work.
