A surprise visit from some of Liverpool FC’s players made a trip to hospital much more bearable for Chester’s Erin Cross.
The three-year-old who is battling acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, was undergoing spinal maintenance treatment at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital last week when she heard some of the Liverpool players were in the building.
Erin’s mum Sarah said: “We heard they were there and Erin became quite excited wondering what was going on.
“With being in the day clinic we didn't expect to see any of the big players because they usually go upstairs to the inpatient wards, so we were quite surprised when Luis Suarez walked in - a few of the nurses blushed!
“The players walked round talking to all the parents and it was lovely - Erin did a high five with Luis before they all left!
“Erin has been to theatre well over 20 times since she was diagnosed but it doesn't get any easier.
“Each time is nerve wrecking, and holding your child whilst they are given anaesthetic is the hardest thing any parent could do.
“However she recovered well as always and was soon playing and having fun by the time the players came in. It was a lovely part of the day.”
