Lord Mayor of Chester Bob Rudd attended a ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the signing of a twinning charter between Sens in France and the City of Chester.

Representatives of Chester International Links Association Eric Plenderleath and David and Jean Evans also travelled to Sens for the event, just before Christmas.

The charter was originally signed in 1994, at ceremonies held in both Chester and Sens, by then Lord Mayor of Chester, the late Margaret Byatt.

To mark the anniversary, Cllr Rudd was presented with copies of the original charters, together with engraved medals, at the same time as presenting an inscribed glass plaque and a picture depicting the Eastgate clock to officials in Sens.

The visit coincided with Sens Christmas Market, so the ceremony included opening the market, switching on of the Christmas Lights, and the start of a Fun Run. Visits were also made to the Lincet Cheese Factory (which supplies cheeses to Waitrose), Sens Cathedral, to tour the exhibitions marking its 850th anniversary, and the Jean-Christophe Ruffin Mediatheque, where the visitors were shown a 12th century bible and a 5th century didcot.

A highlight of the visit was the Concert a Deux Pianos by the Internationally renowned prize winning pianists Francois-Rene Duchable and Marc Laforet.
