The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Chester donned hard hats and hi-viz jackets for a tour of the new Blacon High School building that is due for completion in May 2016.

Joining Cllr Hugo Deynem and his wife Deb was one of the school’s sponsors, head of Avenue Services in Blacon Paul Knight. The party was also accompanied by head boy Ben Murphy, head girl Amber Sconce and assistant headteacher David Stockdale.

Site manager from building contractors Morgan Sindall Dave Strang led the group on a comprehensive tour of the new, three storey structure, pointing out the features of the interior that is beginning to take shape as internal partitioning is erected, giving new shape and dimension to the interior.

Cllr Deynem was very interested in the sustainability of the building and asked lots of questions about the sourcing of materials, economy and use of renewable energy for services.

Blacon High will also benefit from a £500,000 3G all-weather pitch in 2016 along with a new sports hall.

At the end tour, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress both added their mark to the structure by laying a brick before promising a return visit to support fund-raising activities to help equip the school and see the building when it is complete.
