Lord Mayor of Chester to lead annual service of remembrance at Chester Cathedral

Military parade through the city streets

The war memorial at Chester Cathedral

This year’s service of remembrance at Chester Cathedral takes place on Sunday November 9, led by Lord Mayor Councillor Bob Rudd.

He will be joined by serving members of the Army, RAF and Navy, ex-members of the armed forces and other civic dignitaries.

The service begins at 10am and is lead by The Dean of Chester, the Very Reverend Professor Gordon McPhate.

This will be followed by the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial outside the Cathedral at 10.50am when wreaths will be laid.

A military parade gets underway at approximately 11.20am in St Werburgh Street before it marches through the city centre streets, finishing in Northgate Street where the salute will be taken outside the Town Hall.

Councillor Rudd said: “Remembrance Sunday is extremely important as we pay our respects and honour the brave members of our Armed Forces both past and present.

“I would encourage people to attend the Cathedral service or one of the ceremonies locally to them.”

On November 11, the Lord Mayor will also lead the Act of Remembrance Service which is to be held at Chester Cathedral’s War Memorial. The short service will commence at 10.50am with the traditional siren being sounded from the Town Hall steps at 11am to mark the two minutes silence.
