Four-vehicle smash on A494 in Flintshire sparks major delays

A four-vehicle crash caused major delays on the A494 and A55 in Flintshire this morning.

The rush-hour smash happened on the eastbound carriageway of the A494 at Aston Hill at around 8.30am.

Police were forced to close one lane of the road with the vehicles having sustained substantial damage.

Fortunately, all the motorists involved escaped serious injury.

No arrests made

Just checked in with the police who tell me nobody was arrested following the crash.

Jams cleared

Just checked on the traffic cameras and maps and it appears that the worst of the queues have disappeared now.

The accident has now been cleared and all lanes are back open. It will take some time to clear the queues though.

Motorists reporting major delays

Drivers have taken to social media to say they have been delayed for up to 90 minutes this morning due to the crash.

Delays are expected on both the A55 and A494 for quite a while as it will take time to get all the jams moving. But hopefully people should be able to get on their way soon.

Man given treatment for minor injuries

The Welsh Ambulance Service tell me that they have been in attendance and have confirmed four-vehicles were involved.

Fortunately, nobody has been seriously hurt.

A spokesman said: “We were called at shortly before 8.30am to reports of a four-vehicle road traffic collision on the A494 near Queensferry. We sent a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle to the scene and a man was given treatment for minor injuries before making his own way to hospital.”

Recovery on the way

I’m told that police are currently awaiting recovery for the vehicles. They have closed off one lane because of the crash.

No indication yet if anyone has been hurt in the crash, however the vehicles are badly damaged. We’ll bring you an update from the ambulance service as soon as we can. Fingers crossed everyone is okay.

The crash is also affecting the A55 in both directions at J34 Ewloe. There’s congestion on the westbound carriageway to J35 for Dobhill and on the eastbound carriageway to J33 for Flint/Northop.

Police are urging motorists to seek alternative routes and avoid the area.

It’s thought that three vehicles are involved in the crash.

An eye-witness has told me that one of the vehicles has hit a barrier and is badly damaged.

There are long queues on the eastbound carriageway following the crash with tailbacks back to Flint.
