Four people were taken to hospital following a serious road accident at Little Sutton.

The two-vehicle collision, which involved a Renault Megane and a Land Rover Freelander, happened about 9.50am yesterday (Sunday, July 19) on the A550 Welsh Road, close to the junction with Berwick Road West, outside the Mercure Chester North Woodhey House Hotel.

Fire crews cut off the roof of the Megane to ease the rescue of one person trapped inside. The casualty was released and handed over to paramedics.

Land ambulances took two casualties to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and one to the Countess of Chester Hospital while another patient was flown by air ambulance to Aintree University Hospital.

The road was closed throughout incident, reopening at about 11.45am.
