NURSERY children in Chester celebrated the Sikh festival of Light – known as Diwali.

Bhupinder Virdee-Lace organised the celebration at the Spinney Day Nursery in Chester. She regularly visits the nursery to run multi-cultural workshops.

Children aged between two and four took part in cultural activities, dressed up in Indian clothing and performed Indian dance.

They also used henna and made chapati and cards.

The Festival of Light takes place over five days each year and celebrates the victory of good over evil. In Britain, it is a time for spring-cleaning and decorating buildings with lights.

Kate Carter, manager of the nursery, said: “The children loved the celebrations. It gives them experiences that they never would have had.”
