MEMBERS of the St John Ambulance adult and cadet divisions in Chester and Cheshire have received recognition for all their hard work.

The Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs presented Nick Lowe, divisional superintendent of the Chester adult division, with the Commanders Cup for his ‘efficient public duty management’.

Other Chester members received the following certificates and awards: Shaun Duffy received a bar in recognition of his 17 years service to St John Ambulance; Chris Ashbrook for 1,000 hours service in 2009; Anne Cartwright and Lynn Fuller for their 500 hours service each in 2009.

Rachel Armour received her Gold Duke of Edinburgh award; Megan Fuller received her BTEC award in essential skills in youth work certificate together with the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award; and Ruth Tickle and Beth Fuller each received the St John Ambulance Grand Prior award, which is the highest St John Ambulance award a cadet can achieve.

Dr Don Fitzroy-Smith, Commander for St John Ambulance in Cheshire said: “Our adult and younger members in Cheshire put in hundreds of hours of their spare time each year to help local people and are a valuable asset to the local community.

“I am extremely proud of all our members who provide an outstanding service to the Cheshire community.”

St John Ambulance is the nation’s leading first aid charity and provides excellent first aid and health and safety training courses, first aid at public events, a patient transport service and free first aid training to local year six schoolchildren and new parents in Cheshire.

It is also a major youth organisation and teaches valuable life skills to young people by training them in first aid, empowering them to be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
