Students from The King's School, Chester, celebrate their A Level results

Students at The King’s School in Chester have much to celebrate after receiving their A Level results today.

Ten students, six girls and four boys, are going to study at Oxford or Cambridge with many more students gaining their first choice at the country’s finest universities and most competitive top courses.

The Oxbridge students are: Amy Shaheir, who will read history of art at Christ Church College, Oxford; Andrew Darby, who will read natural sciences at Corpus Christi, Cambridge; Saoirse Nyhan, who will read economics and management at Jesus College, Oxford; Angus Menzies, who will read biochemistry at University College, Oxford; Katie Lawrence-Smith, who will read law at Balliol College, Oxford; Jessica Jones, who will read biological sciences at St John’s, Oxford; Emily Boothroyd, who will read biological sciences at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford; Oliver Berry, who will read physics at St Catherine’s College, Oxford; Patrick Hudson, who will read history at University College, Oxford and Georgie Hodson, who will read philosophy and theology at Worcester College, Oxford.

Seven students have been successful in their applications for medicine, dentistry and veterinary science.

Students at The King's School are taking a wide range of courses including medicine, dentistry and veterinary science

87% of the grades achieved were A* to B with over a fifth of passes at the top A* grade.

Oliver Berry, of Penymynydd, Benjamin Cliff, of Chester, and Andrew Darby, of Ffrith, gained a full house of 4 A*s and six students gained 3 A*s and 1 A: Simon Ellershaw of Chester, Gergo Erdi-Krausz, of Chester, Aidan Kiely, of Christleton, Angus Menzies, of Great Boughton, Mathew Oliver, of Holywell, and Arjun Rao, of Littleton.

A further nine students gained 4 A* and A grades.

Erin Hollingworth and Daniel Swinnock, both of Chester, gained 2 A*s and 2 As.
