HORSE racing fan Mair Spender found the perfect way to get a smart new outfit for her trip to the May meeting at Chester.

Mair, 43, of Leeswood, near Mold, was the lucky winner of a fashion competition arranged by the Chronicle in conjunction with the Eagles Meadow shopping centre in Wrexham.

And her fabulous prize was a cash dash around the centre armed with £200 which she had to spend in just one hour.

Appropriately as it was Grand National day when she embarked on her quickfire shopping spree, fleet-footed Mair managed to complete her own version of the big steeplechase in just half that time.

The competition which Mair won was arranged to coincide with Fashion on the Move, a series of free fashion shows at Eagles Meadow when the centre is turned into a giant catwalk.

The next Fashion on the Move event will be staged at Eagles Meadow on Saturday, April 20.

Mair, who is married to husband John and has two children, Stacey, 17, and 14-year-old Niall, works part-time on the deli counter at Tesco in Broughton.

Mair said: “I’ve never had so much money to spend on myself in one go and usually any spare money I have goes on something for one of the kids.

“After I entered the competition in the Chronicle I forgot all about it. Then when someone phoned me to say I’d won I was just in shock.”
