An overturned vehicle on the M56 has now been recovered and all lanes reopened.
There was heavy traffic westbound heading towards Chester after the incident near junction 15 on Sunday (July 10).
The car overturned in lane three close to the M56 exchange with the M53 at about midday.
Both blocked lanes were reopened by Highways England just before 1.30pm.
Queues had built up past junction 14 at Hapsford and towards junction 12 for Runcorn.
North West Motorway Police advised motorists to allow for extra time to their journey, but the congestion has now eased.
