THE work of the Lady Taverners charity, which raises funds to help young people, was explained at a lunch held in Eccleston.

The Lady Taverners are part of the Lords Taverners charity and raise money to give young people, particularly those with special needs, a sporting chance.

The lunch, at the home of Chris Talbot, was sponsored by Deva Travel of Bridge Street, Chester.

This year is the 60th anniversary of The Lords Taverners and the Lady Taverners were formed 33 years ago.

The Cheshire and North Wales committee was started eight years ago by Chris Talbot, who had been chairman of the North West region for seven years.

The Cheshire and North Wales area was the first region to organise very successful events with the Lords Taverners, including an annual cricket match at Cholmondeley Castle. The next match will take place at Cholmondely on June 25, followed by a Diamond Jubilee Ball the next day.
