An investigation is underway into the cause of a serious three-car smash on Lache Lane last night, which left three people in hospital.

All three emergency services attended the incident, which happened around 6pm (Monday September 8) and resulted in a man and two women having to be taken to hospitals in Liverpool.

But the male driver of a grey Mitsubishi Space and the female driver of a silver Toyota Yaris have both since been released from hospital, Cheshire police have confirmed.

The female passenger who was travelling in the Mitsubishi remains in Aintree Hospital but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the other car involved, a white Ford Ka, did not require hospital treatment.

The cause of the accident is still unknown, but a spokesperson for Cheshire police said it is currently being investigated.
