IMPROVED reliability is planned for Sunday and bank holiday bus services serving two Chester suburbs.

First Group has gained new contracts for services 51 and 53, which run to Kingsway and Plas Newton, which it already operates.

City public transport interests are due to hear at a County Hall meeting on Wednesday (January 21) that although frequencies remain unchanged, the services will terminate in Frodsham Street, rather than at the bus exchange, to improve reliability.

This is said to have become an issue particularly on the 53 service, according to a report.

The two services are to be joined to provide a link between Upton and the railway station.

Through fares are to be considered and the revised timetables will be introduced on Sunday March 1.
