KINGS School sixth former Davin Menon, 17, of Wrexham, is Cheshire and North Wales U21 Chess Champion.
Davin currently plays for the Welsh national team.
Rohan Yeseudian of The Firs won the under 11 tournament and Robert Littler of Kings won the Quick Start competition.
The championship was held at the Wrexham Road school with 145 pupils from the region competing.
Chester primary schools taking part included Kings, The Firs, Saughall All Saints, Mickle Trafford and Queens. Kings were the only Chester school competing in the senior school category.
Kings pupils were declared Schools Champions for receiving the highest score of any school.
