MISS Northwich entrant Kerry Sharples has other things on her mind this week.

She has ambitions to become a physiotherapist but needs to do well in her A-levels to take up a place at Sheffield University.

Kerry sat the exams while attending Sir John Deane's College and will find out the results tomorrow (Thursday).

She said: 'It's a nail-biting time because so much depends on my getting good grades.'

The former Middlewich High School pupil, who lives in Middlewich but qualifies for the contest as she was at college in Northwich, is the latest girl to enter the revived Miss Northwich event, to take place at Winnington Park Recreation Club on Saturday, September 4.

Organised by Northwich Carnival Committee, it is open to girls aged 16-21.

Barbara Turner, acting chairman of the committee, said: 'It isn't just a beauty pageant, we want the girls to be able to talk about their hobbies, occupations and interests.'

Entry forms are available at the Chronicle office at 80 Witton Street or Northwich Information Centre. Or, call Pat Evans on 01606 891565 or Barbara Turner on 01606 76113. The closing date is Friday, August 27.
