A COLOURFUL crop of scarecrows have appeared in the village of Kelsall hoping to impress a panel of judges.

The annual Kelsall Scarecrow Trail has been running for two weeks and the winning scarecrow will be announced at this weekend’s Kelsall Summer Fair at the primary school.

This year’s theme was split between television adverts and traditional scarecrows and the 38 entries can be seen keeping guard in gardens along the village’s roads.

Trail guides can still be bought from Kelsall Primary School, the Co-op, Wally Duttons Butchers and Holmes Pharmacy.

All proceeds from the competition will be donated to the school to fund equipment and facilities.

Kelsall Primary acting headteacher David Wearing said: “The entries around the village look absolutely fantastic. Obviously we are proud of the children’s efforts in this year’s competition. We hope the village will turn out in good numbers this weekend for the summer fair. Fingers crossed the weather will be OK.”
