CHESHIRE Constabulary has put plans in place to help keep local traffic on the move during Creamfields.

About 80 of the 500 extra officers being drafted in to police the event over the August Bank Holiday weekend will be responsible for implementing a traffic management plan.

The plan has been designed to ensure visitors can gain access to and leave the event site efficiently and by the most appropriate routes.

But it has also been created to manage the likelihood of increased traffic and for the benefit of residents, who will need to maintain access to their homes and businesses.

Those who choose to drive to the music festival are being encouraged to follow the road signs and not use satellite navigation systems as there will be a number of traffic diversions in place and the signs have been designed to move them as efficiently as possible.

Inspector David Price, who is leading the police planning team for Cream-fields, said: 'As part of our planning for the event, we have taken into account the extra people travelling into the area.

'We've had in-depth discussions with the Highways Agency, the two local councils and the organisers and produced a detailed traffic management plan to deal with the likelihood of increased traffic.

'We've also consulted with Mersey Regional Ambulance and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.'
