There is speculation on social media that global superstar Justin Bieber is staying in Chester this weekend as he performs up the road in Manchester.

But while the Canadian pop idol has been snapped partying the night away in Manchester there have been no confirmed sightings here.

This hasn’t stopped plenty of Chester-based fans stating with confidence on Twitter that he is staying in their home city as though it is based on insider knowledge.

Informal enquiries with city centre hotels such as the five star Grosvenor Hotel , The Blossoms and the Crowne Plaza have led to blank faces all round although staff have also pointed out the official policy is not to confirm when VIPs are in residence.

However, a handful of Bieber superfans have been hanging around the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Hoole after acting on social media rumours.

So far their hero remains elusive but interestingly there are several blacked-out Mercedes vans in the hotel car park with security staff, wearing ear pieces and walkie talkies, in evidence. One driver claimed they were looking after a French footballer.

Hotel reception staff told The Chronicle Bieber wasn’t staying with them but tantalisingly added that even if he were, they would not be able to disclose such information.

Bieber fever has gripped the region because he has been performing at Manchester Arena where he makes his final appearance tonight (Sunday, October 23) as part of his Purpose World Tour.

The Chronicle met three dedicated female followers outside the Doubletree who were braving the cold for the chance to catch a glimpse of their man.

Such is the lure of 22-year-old Bieber that two of his teenage girl fans, known as Beliebers, had travelled by public transport all the way from Menai Bridge, Anglesey, two days in a row but with no luck so far despite hours of waiting around. The teens, aged 14 and 17, were losing faith the pop star was in the area.

However, one 19-year-old superfan, from Runcorn, who is seeing Bieber in Manchester tonight for the third time this week, is more confident.

She went to the lengths of booking a room in the hotel with her mum and is convinced she spied Bieber’s two bodyguards having seen them at close quarters in Liverpool on Wednesday where her hero had been recording at Parr Street Studios as she and other adoring fans gathered outside.

The teen, who wishes only to be known as Ciara, reckons she spotted one of the security team at breakfast: “We were queuing – you know where you have to give your room number and then they seat you – he just walked past.”

Ciara, who has liked Bieber since she was 13, is coy about the global star’s appeal.

“I don’t know what it is,” she said. Asked whether it was about him or his music, she replied: “It used to be him.”

Her mum explained that her daughter was so smitten on Bieber that she had seen him in concert in New York, London last week, twice in Manchester so far this week and has tickets to gigs in Dublin and Barcelona.

But there has been controversy after Bieber became frustrated with his screaming fans at the Manchester concert on Thursday.

“Try and stay as quiet as possible,” he is reported to have told his audience. “You can scream as much as you want afterwards but while I’m singing try and stay quiet.”

Ciara’s mum, who runs a business in Frodsham , commented: “I think at the moment he is getting a little bit misunderstood. He’s being a bit blunt and it’s coming across as rude. He tried to explain it better last night and he did say ‘I’m not good at communicating, I’m trying to learn’.”
