Chester was one of the hottest places in the North West - which itself was one of the steamiest regions in the UK yesterday- when a mini heatwave hit the country on Tuesday (July 20).

So in a nutshell, it was pretty flaming hot.

But exactly how much of a scorcher was it? Well, the nearest Met Office observation site to Chester is in Hawarden, where the mercury peaked at 31.7°C at 5pm.

While Crosby in Merseyside - the closest observation site to Liverpool - pipped us to the post by recording a highest temperature of 31.8°C at 6pm.

But claiming the honour of the hottest place in the UK was the Oxfordshire village of Brize Norton at a whopping 33.5°C.
