THE UK’s only cycling series especially for women has announced its first event of the 2013 series at Tatton Park, Knutsford, on May 12.

Last year Cycletta Cheshire saw nearly 1,000 women, including Olympic legend Victoria Pendleton, take to their bikes.

This year the event includes a shorter distance to help novices and a fun ‘scootathlon’ for children on the same day.

With the added incentive of raising funds for official charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support, and the backing again of Victoria Pendleton, ladies across Cheshire and beyond are being urged to get on their bikes at Cycletta Tatton, organised by mass participation events company Human Race.

Cycletta Cheshire 2013 is open to women of all ages and abilities and includes different distances starting from 20km. This includes a classic distance of 40km and a challenge distance of 52-82km.

Girls aged from 12-16 can also take part when accompanied by an adult, opening the event up to as wide an audience as possible.

Continuing the family theme, Cycletta Tatton will also host the ‘scootathlon’ for younger children on the same day.

This is a mini fun triathlon for ages four to eight, where they scoot, bike and run.

Cycletta ambassador Victoria Pendleton said: “I’ve been involved with Cycletta since it launched with two events in 2011. I am so passionate about this series and it is fantastic to see Cycletta continue to grow in popularity, with events now taking place all over the country.”
