The son of former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has been suspended amid the sexual harassment crisis swirling round Westminster.

David Prescott, a key aide to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, was suspended in the past few days, reports our sister title the Mirror. His father John was raised in the Upton area of Chester.

Asked about the suspension, a Labour Party spokesman did not comment directly, saying: “We don’t comment on staffing matters.”

But, speaking about harassment in general, he added: “The party takes all complaints of sexual harassment, abuse and discrimination extremely seriously.

“We ask that anyone with a complaint comes forward so that allegations can be properly investigated.

“When evidence of misconduct comes to light, all appropriate disciplinary action is taken in line with the party’s rule book and procedures.”

John Prescott who grew up in Chester

Earlier this year, David Prescott failed in a bid to become the party’s candidate for the safe seat of Hull West and Hessle after former Home Secretary Alan Johnson stood down in the run-up to June’s election.

Mr Prescott has become a key member of Mr Corbyn’s circle and is credited with boosting the Labour leader’s image.

He is also thought to help write his speeches and prepare him to face Theresa May at Prime Minister’s Questions.
