THE banter between Chester couple John and Pauline Prescott during a recording of ITV’s All Star Mr and Mrs was described as ‘priceless’ by host Phillip Schofield.

The former DeputyPrime Minister, who was born in Prestatyn but grew up in the city, told the studio audience about when he and Chester girl Pauline Tilston began courting.

Labour man John, who has been married to Pauline for 50 years, said: “When were dating up in Chester there was a unique way of telling her that I was about to finish work.

“I was working in a butcher’s shop in Chester at the time and I used to spin sausages in the window. To signal I was due to finish I used to do that and she was at the chip shop waiting for us.”

The couple were competing against EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer and husband Richard Merkell as well as Westlife’s Nicky Byrne and his wife Georgina in a show to be screened later this year.

John, who is now Lord Prescott, appeared on the show with a walking stick, having broken his metatarsal bone.

He quipped: “I have broken my Beckham bone. I fell off a pavement. I broke it like Beckham.”

The funniest moment came after the final question when the Prescotts were aiming to win £30,000 for charity.

Pauline was asked about the most treasured possession John had ever bought her from his travels around the world.

She answered a lucky charm necklace from New Zealand. But John answered pearls.

Asked why he did not say the charm, he replied: “I did give her a tiki charm but she broke it with a hammer because she thought it was given to me by a girl in New Zealand.”

Phillip Schofield tweeted afterwards: “On my way home after another Mr & Mrs recording, all guests great but John & Pauline Prescott… priceless :).”
