Cheshire County Council chief executive Jeremy Taylor takes on a new role in showbiz tomorrow (Saturday).

He will be joint master of ceremonies with Nick Fry at Prom Praise tomorrow night with one of the largest ensembles ever to perform inside Chester Cathedral.

Actor Nick, who also works for the cathedral, has been in TV's Coronation Street and other dramas, while Jeremy last trod the boards as an amateur in A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1981.

Producer Jo Sykes has amassed a company of 350 to help raise funds for the cathedral's Song School.

The evening begins with a trumpet fanfare, includes audience participation with favourite hymns and songs and features a mass of talent of all ages.

Choristers include the children of Chester primary schools, Chester Male Voice Choir, the cathedral's choir and the programme features Chester Schools Concert Band, Matt Baker's music from last year's Chester Mystery Plays sung by the original company, and his women's group, A Handbag of Harmonies, singing in their own distinctive style.

Soloist Dia Steinhorsdottir sings I Don't Know How To Love Him from Jesus Christ Superstar while international professional Diana Palmerston performs the final solo before the ensemble and audience sing together.

Prom Praise at Chester Cathedral starts at 7pm. Tickets are available on 01244 320700.
