Scenes from television’s hit 1940s drama Foyle’s War will be shot on two streets in Chester and in a nearby village.

Camera crews required streets lined with Victorian terraced houses and village shops to recreate post-war London, where the series is set.

Filming on Albion Street and Steele Street in Chester is scheduled to take place on April 1 and at two empty shops on Church Bank, Tattenhall.

Michael Kitchen stars as Christopher Foyle with Honeysuckle Weeks as Samantha Stewart.

Production of the ninth series is under way with film makers not ruling out a return to Chester if a 10th is commissioned.

Residents received letters from ITV asking they don’t park on Albion Street and Steele Street from the evening of Monday, March 31 until the crew leaves on the evening of the following day.

Alternative parking will be provided for displaced vehicles, access for deliveries will be maintained at all times and stewards will be on hand to answer questions and help residents.

Chronicle staff member John Bottomley, who has lived on Steele Street with his wife Catherine since 1996, is a big Foyle’s War fan and is delighted the cameras are coming to town

“We both love it,” said John, 61, who is in charge of the Chronicle ’s sports department.

“I’d hoped they were going to make a new series sometime.

“But I just couldn't believe it when I heard they would actually be filming it in our street.”

“My wife is hoping our cat Peter can make it on set as an ‘extra’ while I’m harbouring hopes Honeysuckle Weeks will pop in for a cup of tea.”

John and Helen Rideal own the two shops in Tattenhall that are up for sale. Built in the late 1800s the buildings will be covered in 1940s-style signs and props.

Mr Rideal, 64, a retired builder, said: “One shop will be made up to look like a bicycle shop and the other as an electrical shop selling wirelesses. They’re very authentic buildings with cobbles outside so will easily transform into 1940s shops.

“We always watch Foyle’s War and can’t wait to see the episode with our shops in it.”
