IT IS story time for Cheshire teachers.

The Harthill Art Trust is offering a two-day storytelling course for primary school teachers in advance of National Storytelling Week – February 1-7.

The course is led by professional storyteller Johnny Gillett, aka The Journey Man, who will offer techniques on leading storytelling sessions with children.

Johnny, of Bunbury, said: “Every teacher knows that they need to engage their class and many subjects are full of stories – especially history and religion. If you can tell a story the characters begin to live in the children's imagination and interest in the subject begins to flow. Even science and maths can be transformed with a story to illustrate a point.”

Most places on the free course have been snapped up although there are one or two still available on January 22 and 23 at Dropping Stone Farm in Harthill.

The course is funded by The Harthill Art Trust in collaboration with Habitats and Hillforts, the new landscape partnership scheme which focuses on the hilltop Iron Age forts that line Cheshire’s Sandstone Ridge.
