A police investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man’s body in a Chester canal over the weekend.

Cheshire Police are appealing for information after the body of 64-year-old Nigel Jones was found in the Shropshire Union Canal opposite Queens Place in the early hours of Sunday morning (April 19).

Detective Sergeant John Lyons from Chester CID said: “At this stage of our investigation we are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding Mr Jones death.

“As part of this we are keen to trace the final movements of Mr Jones who was last seen in the Oddfellows Arms, Frodsham Street, at approximately 11.30pm on Saturday April 18.

“Mr Jones is described as approximately 5 ft, 10 inches tall, medium build with short greying hair. He was last seen wearing a red and white Umbro sports top, with a grey fleece and blue jeans.”

Anyone who believes that they may have seen Mr Jones is asked to contact Cheshire police on 101 quoting incident number 110 of April 19 2015. Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
