Inter-village celebration for Queen's birthday

Sporting event was supported by Active Cheshire

To celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday villagers from Manley, Mouldsworth, Ashton Hayes and Alvanley held a special sporting event.

The day started with a five-a-side football match, on the parish field in Manley, in which teams from Manley, Alvanley and Ashton Hayes primary schools competed.

The final saw Alvanley beat Manley 2-1 after extra time.

There was then a short open-air service of thanksgiving for the life of the Queen, taken by Rev Canon Ray Samuels. This was followed by picnics and a communal barbecue whilst villagers watched cricket matches between the local village teams.

The final was between Manley and Ashton Hayes, where Manley triumphed, followed by afternoon tea with beautifully decorated festive cakes.

During the afternoon there was also tennis coaching on offer for all on the two grass tennis courts at Manley Village Hall Tennis Club.

All events were supported with funding by Active Cheshire at CWAC.
