A COUNTRYSIDE caravan park owner is appealing against a decision that he should not expand.

The application was submitted at Manor Wood in Coddington Lane, Coddington, by Nigel Dutton.

Mr Dutton told planning officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council he was seeking approval for the change of use of a caravan storage area to allow 12 touring caravans, car parking and toilets.Š

His application included additional sites for 12 tourers and 15 static caravans.

Objections were raised by Coddington and District Parish Council which argued it was ‘completely opposed to the further extension of the park’.

Councillors claimed the site ‘always has been an eyesore, clearly visible from the A534’ and that the roads around Manor Wood were not suitable for such an enterprise.

Objectors told the borough council they were concerned the caravan park affected the character of the landscape and the countryside.

They claimed that caravanners on the winding, narrow local roads, which have no footpaths ‘regularly cause fright and inconvenience to local drivers, cyclists, horse riders and pedestrians’.

Visit Chester and Chester supported the expansion of the park as did a local business.Š

The application was recommended for refusal and the borough council agreed that permission could not be granted.

Mr Dutton has now brought in Frodsham based town planning consultants McDyre & Co who argue the council’s refusal ‘has no substance and is not justified’.

The agents say ‘a great deal of effort’ had been put in to successfully merge the scheme into the countryside.

Overall the changes would lead to fewer caravans at the park.
