THE alternative music scene is thriving in Halton.

The Haltonative sessions at Bar Studio in Runcorn have taken over from the popular indie nights formerly held at The Cherry Tree and the famous Stoned Soul Picnic.

Although live music continues to thrive in the borough, Haltonative is the only dedicated club night for indie and alternative music, with a team of nine DJs and one night a month dedicated to live music.

Since the event started in March, organiser Gareth Crilly, formerly of Stoned Soul Picnic, has seen numbers swell.

He said: 'We never expected such a strong response, it goes to show the good people of Halton were dying for a quality indie night.'

Two highly successful all-day events featuring a mix of open mic, live bands and DJs have led to Haltonative welcoming guest DJs from the world of indie.

Today, The Farm's Peter Hooton and Keith Mullen will join the crew for a unique event.

Gareth said: 'We're kicking off the special events with some indie legends. Over the course of the year, expect some more, along with fresher faces in the new year.'
