A NEW Indian restaurant has opened next to Chester’s Mecca bingo hall.

Sher Khan, which officially opened with a party for special guests on Tuesday, has taken over the building previously occupied by Brasserie 10-16 in Brookdale Place.

Despite the name, the family-owned eaterie has nothing to do with the Shere Khan restaurant which used to be in Pepper Street where Piccolino’s is today.

Company director Abdul Monnan said there were authentic dishes from across the sub-continent, with lots of fish dishes, as well as English dishes such as fillet steak, with prices from £6.95 for a basic main course up to £19.95.

The business person’s lunch, served week days between 12-2pm, is £4.95. There is a fully-licensed bar.

Abdul said: “We do contemporary as well as authentic style cooking. They know exactly what they are doing and the chefs use pot cooking, the way we do it in our own homes.”

The ground-floor kitchen had been designed to be open plan so customers can see their dish being prepared. “People like to see what’s happening,” added Abdul.
