Faulty tumble dryers are being recalled after being labelled a potential fire risk.

A series of incidents led to manufacturer Indesit issuing a warning for a ‘significant’ number of appliances.

Homes in Cheshire West could be affected.

Creda and Hotpoint brands are also at risk for two dryer models built between April 2004 and September 2015.

Indesit launched a review of their product safety after being taken over by Whirlpool last year.

Fluff building up in the filter close to the heating element is thought to be causing the dryers to catch fire and there have been a number of callouts across the UK.

Concerned owners can check whether their model is affected on the Hotpoint or Indesit websites .

A Hotpoint statement said: “We are activating an extensive consumer outreach and service action plan in order to provide our consumers with products that are updated to higher safety and quality standards.

“We will arrange a visit from an engineer, free of charge, to modify your appliance.

“The improvements we believe are necessary will further enhance the safety and quality of your dryer.”
