If you have shopped at IKEA recently, you should check your bank statements – because some people have been charged twice for their purchases.

The error happened due to a computer glitch, according to the retail giant.

The problem was present at all of its UK branches, including its store in Warrington where many people from the Chester and Ellesmere Port area shop.

It happened last Thursday and affected 102 customers. The furniture retailer is now working to pay back everyone affected.

Customers who are overcharged by retailers are entitled to a refund and should highlight the issue as soon as they notice it.

Donna Moore, from IKEA UK, said, “We can confirm that following a BT network outage on Thursday, July 21, which caused a fault on our payment service platform, 102 duplicate payment transactions took place across all IKEA stores in the UK. We are actively working with the payment service provider to rectify these transactions as quickly as possible so that those affected will have the duplicate payments released back to them by their banks.

"We apologise for any inconvenience that this caused and if any of our customers are concerned they are welcome to contact us to discuss the matter.”

IKEA is also recalling six chocolate products which failed to mention the risk to customers with nut allergies.

The products did not state correctly that they contained the nuts, posing a potential risk for anyone with allergies.

The new recalled products are:

- Choklad Lingon &Blabar, chocolate with lingon and blueberry flavours, 180g.

- Choklad Ljus Utz, a milk chocolate bar, 100g.

- Godis Not Utz a milk chocolate bar with hazelnut, 100g.

- Godis Chokladkrokant, milk chocolate with butterscotch, 450g.

- Godis Chokladran, chocolate-filled wafers, 168g.

- CChokladkrokant Bredbar, chocolate butterscotch spread, 400g.

If you have bought the above products and have an allergy to hazelnut and/or almond, do not eat it.

Instead, return it to the nearest IKEA store for a full refund or call customer services on 0203 645 0010.
