HUNTINGTON Primary School celebrated World Book Day with a dressing-up celebration for children and teachers alike.

Pupils came dressed as characters from a wide range of children's fiction, particular favourites being from the Harry Potter series, Alice in Wonderland and The Cat in the Hat.

There was much excitement as each new character entered the playground in the morning, children and parents having worked really hard to create impressive costumes.

Raising excitement about the world of books was the key message of the day, which ended with an assembly to view all the costumes, and enjoy some role-play from the staff in character.

Headteacher Duncan Rose was impressed by everyone's efforts. He said: “We live in a world saturated with stories, told using the latest technology from 3-D movies to online gaming, but the printed word is where they all begin.

“Developing a love of books is still such an important part of a child's development, and we are really pleased that the children's love for stories was so clearly evident during the day.”
