The Huntington community came together on Remembrance Sunday to remember those who sacrificed their own life for others.
A service at St Luke's Church was followed by a parade, marching from the church, down Chester Road and to the memorial on Highlanders Road. Hundreds of people gathered to hear prayers, led by Reverend Chris Blunt, and readings from pupils from Huntington Primary School.
The memorial is situated on land formally known as Saighton Camp which was used for army training purposes, including during the Second World War and this history is proudly shared by the Huntington community.
Many community groups then laid wreaths to honour and remember those who never came home from war.
This included veterans of the armed forces, soldiers from the Mercian Regiment, Huntington Parish Council, PC Malone of Cheshire Police, ward councillor Mark Williams representing Cheshire West, pupils from Bishops’ Bluecoat CE High School and Huntington Primary, Huntington WI, Huntington and Vicars Cross Brownies, Huntington Guides and 40th Chester Scouts.
A special arch was also created by Huntington guides which proved a focal point for the memorial and proved a beautiful tribute with so much hard work which had gone into creating it.
Chairman of the Parish Council Roy Shelton said: “This event allows the Huntington community to come together to remember those who sacrificed so much. The huge attendance today shows how important this event is and how strong our community has become.”
