HUNDREDS of residents pounded the pavements and raced through the streets of Helsby to raise money for charity.

On Sunday pensioners, children, parents and teenagers joined aspiring athletes to run one, three or six miles for Sport Relief.

The race, which saw hundreds of runners stream through towns, cities and villages across the country simultaneously, raised hundreds of pounds in Helsby alone.

Cheerleaders waved their pom-poms as runners crossed the starting line at Helsby Community Sports Club, on Chester Road, before pounding through the streets to complete the Helsby and 10 Bridge Mile run.

Organisers have heralded this year’s race as an ‘astounding success’ after almost 200 people signed up for the event.

Michelle Pickstock, who helped to organise the race at the sports centre, said: “It was a fantastic day, everyone had so much fun and it was great seeing so many people joining together to raise money for charity.”

Residents ran, walked and were pushed around the circuit.
