A £9m Grand Prix car looks set to be the highlight of Cholmondeley’s Pageant of Power in July.

The iconic 1938 ‘Silver Arrow’ racing car is one of hundreds of vintage and modern vehicles that will compete in timed on-track sessions and parade runs.

The three-day event, which drew crowds of 50000 last year, is being held at the Cholmondeley Estate from July 15-17.

Event director James Hall said: “There are hundreds of cars appearing, each with its own unique history.ŠBut the common denominator that unites them all is their star quality.”

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Jaguar E-Type, a newly-restored, Low Drag lightweight model will be on show.

This actual car crashed at the French circuit, Autodrome de Linas- Montlhéry race circuit in 1964 and was thought to be irreparable.

But after 47 years and more than 7000 hours of work, the car has been restored to its original state.

Another highlight for motor racing enthusiasts will be a rare group of four-wheel drive F1 cars.

One of the vehicles, the Lotus 63 was an experimental F1 car designed by Colin Chapman for the 1969 season, but after just a single test run, driver Graham Hill labelled it a ‘death trap’.

The prancing horse of Ferrari will be a common sight at the pageant.

There will be the chance to get up close to the new Ferrari 458 GT3 race car before it races in the 2011 British GT Championship.

During the 1960’s, Ferrari and Ford fought for supremacy.

A Ford GT40 race car from this era will be taking to the Cholmondeley circuit, racing against the Ferrari 330 P3.

The Bentley Speed 8 which won at Le Mans in 2003 will also make an appearance along with the Porsche 917K.

However, the pageant is not all about speed.

There will be the opportunity to see the quirkier side of motor racing with more unusual vehicles such as the BMW ‘Brutus’.

Germany was forbidden from creating military aircraft after World War One so, with large numbers of unused 12-cylinder 46-litre engines to spare, this experimental project was created.

Last year, the pageant won the best tourism event award in Cheshire.
