BEER lovers flocked to Kingsley to enjoy a weekend of music, dancing and drinking in the countryside to raise money for the village cricket club.

More than 350 children and adults from as far away as Edinburgh travelled to Kingsley Cricket Club to enjoy their second annual Beer Festival.

Villagers swigged 25 types of locally brewed beer and cider before dancing into the night to the country sounds of well known bands the MidNight Pilgrims and The Gatecrashers.

Organised by Kingsley Cricket Club and Cheshire Beer and Wine, the two-day festival has been heralded as the ‘best ever’ and a ‘massive success’ with organisers already setting their sites on an even bigger, more family friendly festival next year.

Organiser and member of the cricket club Julian Holmes explained that the event was one of the main fundraisers for the club, which costs around £5,000 a year to run.

“We were amazed how many people turned up this year. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves,” he said.

“A few people from CAMRA said it was the best festival they have ever been to. It was much better than last year, but this is an event we definitely want to expand on.

“Next year it will be even bigger and better. We want to make it a bit different from other beer festivals and move it away from the old image of people sitting around swigging pints and make it more of a festival atmosphere but which still appeals to real ale enthusiasts.”

Beer lovers at the festival enjoyed expert advice from Steve Kitchen of Cheshire Beer and Wine, while tasting beers from Helter Skelter and the Bulls Head in Frodsham, along with other sponsors from across Cheshire.
