Hundreds of balloons soared high above Whitby on Friday, February 13, as the friends and family of teenager Oscar Phillips, tragically killed by a train at Capenhurst station last month, paid their respects.
The community turned out in force for the memorial at Whitby High School, where the 16-year-old was a sixth-form student.
Orange balloons were chosen as it was Oscar’s favourite colour.
Headteacher Bryn Heeley paid a heartfelt tribute to Oscar ahead of their release.
He said: “We release these balloons in memory of and respect for Oscar. A young man who has provided so many happy memories and thoughts for so many people.
“These memories and thoughts will remain with us all.”
