The Hospice of the Good Shepherd has a new corporate fundraising manager to develop and deliver a robust strategy for the future.

Abi Smith joined the hospice in February from her previous role as CEO at the Railway Benefit Fund, where she was responsible for raising the profile and income for the charity. She also led the Cheshire fundraising programme for Claire House for over nine years.

Abi is keen to establish and build long-term, sustainable partnerships with businesses across the region as soon as possible and is already working closely with reputable companies like M&S Money, who have nominated the Hospice of the Good Shepherd as their charity of the year, and CF Fertiliser who recently donated £4,015 as one of their fundraising initiatives.

The hospice in Backford relies on almost 80% of its income through its charitable donations and with a turnover of £4 million a year it is vital that they are able to forge relationships with the business community.

Abi said: “The hospice needs to raise over £7,000 every day in order to offer free end of life care and support to local people. The care, compassion and kindness the hospice offer is felt by all that use their services, this make the hospice an attractive partner for businesses to support - many of whom may have had employees that required the hospice care. I am delighted to join the hospice and offer my skills and experience to a great organisation.”

Chief executive Steve Hoy said: “There is a thriving business community across the region and it’s important that we are able to engage with these businesses to support us in the future. I am delighted to welcome Abi to the Fundraising Team and am sure she will make a number of inroads very quickly.”
