A hospice boss has spoken of her ‘concerns’ regarding the impact Brexit could have on its services.

Chief executive officer of St Luke’s Hospice Andrea Ladeira says community support is ‘essential’ to their survival during ‘these uncertain times’.

The Winsford hospice, which was founded in 1983, is funded by voluntary contributions and must raise £8,600 each day in order to provide free care and support to adults from mid and south Cheshire suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

Andrea said: “Since the results were announced I have been asked by many supporters and colleagues how Brexit will affect St Luke’s.

“Like many of us, we are feeling a little concerned about the impact this decision will have on our hospice and the services we can provide.

“Over the years, the team at St Luke’s has faced many challenges and each time we become even more determined to keep this organisation moving forward.

“There is no doubt that Britain is facing political and economic unrest for months, if not years, to come.

“However, I work with people who are truly determined to make a difference in our community so we can continue to look after the people of mid and south Cheshire.”

While Andrea added that the team will ‘continue to fight for every bit of funding’, she is encouraging members of the public to consider making a regular donation, ‘however small’, to give the hospice the stability it needs to make its services available to as many people as possible.
