A horse was killed after colliding with a car on a country road.

At about 11.51am on Sunday, September 1 police received reports of a collision involving  a horse on the A51 Chester Road in Oakmere,  Northwich.

It is believed the Audi A4 collided with the  horse which had lost its rider after the rider fell from the animal in a field.

The horse had left the field and entered the  carriageway where it was hit by the car.

A vet attended to treat the horse but sadly the horse died a short time later.

One of the passengers of the car was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital to be assessed for an injury which was believed to be  minor.
