A woman called the police after seeing a SNAKE slithering down the road in Hoole.

The black, red and white striped reptile was seen snaking its way down West Street, at around 6.30pm on Saturday (September 6).

Police removed the snake from the road, after the woman called the emergency services after being unable to get through on the phone to the RSPCA, say police.

The reptile, which is said to be a milk snake, is currently in the care of Contact Pets on the Parade in Blacon – it is thought it escaped from a nearby home where it was being kept as an pet.

Police are now trying to reunite the snake, which is not harmful to humans, with its owner and have appealed for information by social networking site twitter.

It is not the first time police have been called to remove a slithering creature, in March officers removed a 3ft corn snake from a glass ledge over the entrance to Oulton Place on St Oswald’s Way.

Speaking about the recent rescue, PC Mark Evans, of Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said a woman had become concerned after seeing the snake winding down the road in Hoole.

“She tried to call the RSPCA but had been on hold for ten minutes, she gave up and called us,” PC Evans said.

“It is not classed as dangerous and we have had no reports of any missing.”

Anyone who has any information about the snake is urged to call Cheshire police on 101 quoting incident number 845 of September 6.
